The HC suspends the Assam-Meghalaya boundary agreement.
The High Court has suspended the Assam-Meghalaya boundary agreement. This has caused a lot of tension between the two states. The main reason for the suspension is the fact that the agreement was not properly ratified by the legislatures of both states.
The agreement was signed on March 29, but no physical demarcation or erection of boundary posts on the ground has been carried out.
A court in Meghalaya has ordered an interim stay on an agreement to demarcate the border between the two north-east Indian states. The order will stay in effect till the next date of hearing on February 6 next year, the court said.
