The head of the UGC discusses book translations for courses in Indian languages.

The head of the University Grants Commission (UGC) said on Wednesday that the organisation is in talks with the Centre to start a programme that will see books being translated from English to Indian languages for use in college courses.

Speaking at a function in New Delhi, Professor Dinesh Singh said that the UGC is committed to promoting the use of Indian languages in higher education, and that the translation programme is one way of achieving this goal.

He added that the UGC is also working on a proposal to make it mandatory for all universities to offer at least one course in an Indian language.
