The mayor of the Ukrainian city of Klintsy, Mikhail Grishin, has claimed that Ukrainian forces have shelled the Russian border village of the same name. Grishin made the claim in an interview with the Russian news agency Interfax, saying that the shelling was in response to “provocations” by the Russian military.

The Russian military has not yet commented on the mayor’s claim, but the village of Klintsy is located in the Bryansk region of Russia, which has seen increased activity by Ukrainian forces in recent months. In August, Ukrainian troops launched a series of attacks on Russian border posts in the region, resulting in the death of one Russian soldier.

The increased activity by Ukrainian forces in the Bryansk region comes amid reports that Russia has been building up its forces along the Ukrainian border. Russia has denied these reports, but the build-up of Russian forces in the region has been widely reported by Western media outlets.
