The Sun has issued an apology for its piece about Meghan Markle, saying it “did not intend to cause any offense.” The tabloid has been accused of racism for its coverage of the Duchess of Sussex, which has included calling her a ” Duchess of Dumpling” and ” Meghan ‘tries to be normal.’ “

“We apologize unreservedly for any offense caused by the story headlined ‘Duchess of Dumpling,’ ” the Sun said in a statement. “It was never our intention to call her that, or to suggest that she is overweight.”

The Sun also denied that it is racist, saying it has “a long and proud history of campaigning against racism.”

“We are very sorry that some readers felt the story was racist,” the statement said. “This was never our intention.”
