The Supreme Court has granted Goa’s request to engage in mine disposal operations. This is a huge victory for the state, as it will allow them to finally rid themselves of the mines that have been plaguing their coastline for years. Engaging in these operations will also be a major boost to the economy, as it will create jobs and bring in much-needed revenue.
Goa’s government had asked the top court to relax the bar on iron ore mining, saying it was the main source of livelihood for the people. “We allow the state to carry out mine dumping activities, subject to the conditions made in the recommendations of the Expert Committee.,” a bench said.
