The University Grants Commission suggests activities for Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav to promote Indian languages.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has suggested certain activities for Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav (Indian Language Festival) to promote Indian languages. The festival is being organised by the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) from September 27 to 30, 2019. The aim of the festival is to promote and propagate the use of Indian languages across the country. The activities suggested by the UGC are as follows:

1. Essay writing competitions on the importance of mother tongue in higher education and its role in national integration.

2. Poster making competitions on the theme of ‘One Nation, One Language’.

3. Elocution competitions on the topics ‘Languages and Nationalism’ and ‘Languages and Globalisation’.

4. Debate competitions on the topics ‘Should English be the only link language in India?’ and ‘Should the three-language formula be implemented in all schools?’.

The UGC has also urged all universities and colleges to celebrate the festival by organising various events and competitions.
