To speed up clearances, the government is thinking about using PAN as a single-point identifier: Inder Goyal

The PAN card is a unique identification number that is assigned to every individual by the Income Tax Department. It is used for various purposes such as filing income tax returns, applying for a loan, etc. The government is now mulling over the idea of using PAN as a single-point identifier to speed up clearances. This would mean that all transactions would be linked to a single PAN number, making it easier for the government to track and monitor them. This would also help in curbing black money and tax evasion. However, there are concerns that this could lead to invasion of privacy and misuse of data. The government is still considering the pros and cons of this proposal and a final decision is yet to be taken.
