To speed up clearances, the government is thinking about using PAN as a single-point identifier: Inder Goyal

This would mean that all transactions would be linked to a single PAN number, making it easier for the government to track and monitor them. This would also help in curbing black money and tax evasion. However, there are concerns that this could lead to invasion of privacy and misuse of data. The government is still considering the pros and cons of this proposal and a final decision is yet to be taken.
