A dramatic decline in today’s (March 13) Sensex and Nifty erased early gains as worries over “frothy” valuations in the midcap and smallcap sectors surfaced. The Sensex fell by more than 1,500 points, to settle at 72,515. NSE Nifty 50 crossed the 22,000 threshold. Over the course of the day, all sectoral indexes finished in the negative, with around 302 shares rising, 3188 shares falling, and 40 shares remaining constant.

Real estate, media, PSU Bank, telecom, power, oil and gas, and metals all had declines of more than 5%. Following SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch’s comments, which suggested that SME listings showed indications of manipulation, there was a selloff.

NSE stocks that fell to 52-week lows

Stocks including Marshall Machines, BGR Energy, GRM Overseas, Cello World, and Sindhu Trade reached their 52-week lows.

The stocks of Dolphin Offshore, Somi Conveyor, Diamond Power, Intellect Design, Modern Threads (India) Ltd., and Somi Conveyor reached new 52-week highs.

Top NSE gainers

Top NSE gainers included ITC, Nestle India, Britannia, ICICI Bank, and Kotak Bank.

NSE’s biggest losers

Among the top NSE losers were Power Grid, NTPC, Adani Ent., Coal India Ltd., and Adani Ports SEZ.
