One of Central America’s most active volcanoes exploded on Sunday, sending ash 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) into the sky.

The volcano, known as the Santiaguito, is located in southwestern Guatemala. It is one of several volcanoes in the country that are active.

The eruption caused a loud boom that could be heard for several kilometers. It also sent a plume of ash into the air that could be seen from the capital, Guatemala City, about 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) away.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The Santiaguito has been erupting off and on since 1922. It is the most active volcano in Guatemala.
