In a highly unusual motivational talk, Virat Kohli told his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammates that they “won’t go to their grave” if they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening game of the Vivo Indian Premier League on Monday.

“I was gone, had no belief. I was like, what the f**k are we doing here, seriously. We were down and out,” said Kohli, in a video posted on the official Twitter handle of the IPL.

“I said to the boys in the huddle, look, we’re not going to go to our grave if we lose this game. It’s not the end of the world, but we’ve got to start believing. The moment we start believing, good things will happen,” he added.

Kohli’s words seem to have worked as RCB chased down a stiff target of 176 with ease, winning by four wickets and eight balls to spare.

The Indian captain was himself the star of the show, scoring a brilliant unbeaten 90 off just 52 balls. His innings was studded with six boundaries and five sixes.
