The cyclone has caused widespread damage, with trees and power lines downed, and homes and businesses flooded. Many people are without power or running water, and the death toll is expected to rise. Rescue workers are working around the clock to reach those who are stranded, and the Tamil Nadu government has declared a state of emergency.
Mandous – a severe cyclonic storm – crossed the Tamil Nadu coast near Mahabalipuram. The storm has weakened now and is set to weaken further in the coming hours. Flights and trains were affected and a huge deployment of rescue troops was seen ahead of the landfall.
