The FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 is planned to start on Friday, January 13, and is the biggest hockey competition ever. The men’s hockey team from India will play Spain to begin its run in the prestigious competition. 16 countries in total will compete in the spectacular, and they will be split into four groups of four teams each. Australia, South Africa, France, and Argentina make up Pool A. Germany, Belgium, Japan, and Korea are in Pool B. Netherlands, Chile, Malaysia, and New Zealand make up Pool C. Pool D is made up of India, Wales, Spain, and England.

The Indian squad, led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, is one of the favourites this time around. The Indian squad is very confident going into the main tournament after winning a silver medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 and a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. They would strive to win their pool because doing so guarantees them a spot in the quarterfinal.

Spain, who is now rated No. 8 in the world, is a difficult opponent to defeat. India, which is rated No. 6 overall, does have the advantage on paper, but they will need to put on a strong effort to defeat the Spaniards. All eyes will be on Sreejesh Raveendran, who will be playing in goal, as well as Jarmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Manpreet Singh, and Akashdeep Singh in midfield, and forward Mandeep Singh.
