WHO official calls for non-discriminatory, evidence-based Covid-19 limitations

The World Health Organization’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has called for limitations on the spread of Covid-19 that are based on evidence and not discrimination. He noted that while some countries have been successful in limiting the spread of the virus, others have not, and that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. He urged countries to work together to find solutions that work for them, and to share information and best practices with each other.

A senior WHO official has encouraged nations to implement reasonable, non-discriminatory precautionary Covid-19 entry limitations.

At a press conference held here on Tuesday, Hans Kluge, the WHO’s regional director for Europe, made the request.

“We are pushing for such measures to be rooted in science, to be proportionate and non-discriminatory,” Kluge remarked in reference to the nations in our region that are currently enacting precautionary travel policies.

Because the virus strains that are circulating in China are also circulating in Europe, Kluge told Xinhua that there is now no immediate hazard for the European region based on the information we have from China.
