Meta India Data Centre: In 2020, following the country’s suspension of TikTok, the ByteDance-owned short video app, Instagram Reels saw its first widespread release in India.

Meta, parent company of Facebook, is set to launch its first data center in India in Q1 2024, aiming to meet the increasing demand for its short video feature Reels.

Meta is considering deploying a small 10-20 megawatt cache-focused data centre in India, with an estimated investment plan of ₹50-60 crore, according to industry experts, indicating the highest quality Tier-4 data centres with over 99.99 percent uptime.

Meta’s investment in India could range from ₹500-1,200 crore if it decides to establish its first 10-20 MW data center.

Instagram Reels was launched in India in July 2020 after TikTok’s suspension. Meta later expanded globally. India is a crucial market for Instagram, with TikTok and Instagram competing for the top spot in global downloads in 2023, according to Sensor Tower.
