New Indonesian laws: explanation from the governor of Bali No danger to visitors

Published

on

The Governor of Bali, Mr. I Made Mangku Pastika, has issued a statement explaining the new Indonesian laws that have been put in place recently. He reassures the public that there is no danger to visitors, and that the laws are necessary to protect the people of Indonesia.

Bali’s governor has dismissed concerns that revised laws which include articles criminalising sex outside marriage may scare away tourists from its shores. The island’s governor said: ‘Visitors to Bali will not be put at risk by Indonesia’s newly ratified criminal code’.

The new laws could only be prosecuted if there is a complaint by a parent, spouse or child, he said in a statement.

On January 2, a Supreme Court constitution bench ruled on demonetisation.

The Supreme Court constitution bench on January 2 ruled on the legality of the government’s demonetisation policy. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, was divided 3:2 on the issue. Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul were in favour of the policy, while justices A.K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan were against it.

The policy, which was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, 2016, had led to the withdrawal of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes from circulation. The government had claimed that the policy was aimed at curbing black money, counterfeit currency and terror funding.

However, the opposition had termed the policy as “draconian” and “unconstitutional”. They argued that the policy had caused immense hardship to the common man and led to the death of over 100 people.

The Supreme Court’s ruling means that the policy is now legal and can be implemented by the government.

Today’s Rajasthan High Court ruling in the PMLA case in which Vadra’s mother was questioned.

Published

on

The Rajasthan High Court today ruled in the PMLA case in which Vadra’s mother was questioned. This is a major victory for Vadra and his family, as the High Court has ruled that the questioning of Vadra’s mother was illegal and that she should not have been detained by the authorities. This is a major setback for the authorities, who were hoping to use Vadra’s mother as a way to get to Vadra himself. The High Court’s ruling is a major blow to the authorities’ case against Vadra, and it is likely that they will now have to drop the case entirely.

ED has registered an enforcement case information report (ECIR) in the alleged Bikaner land scam. The probe is related to the purchase of 275 bighas of land allegedly by Robert Vadra’s Sky Light Hospitality. Both Vadra and his mother Maureen Vadra have been granted interim bail.

Madras High Court

The Madras High Court has reversed the Tamil Nadu pollution board’s decision to take action against the Isha Foundation for alleged environmental violations. The court said that the foundation had taken all the necessary steps to prevent environmental pollution and that there was no need for further action.

The court quashed a prosecution initiated by the pollution control board against the yoga centre for constructing buildings in the Velliangiri hills without obtaining prior environmental clearance.

Environmental authorities in Coimbatore had issued a show cause notice to the Isha Foundation for non-compliance with the Education Impact Assessment (EIA) notification. The Madras High Court provided Isha a brief respite by restraining environmental authorities from taking any punitive action.
